able to get beer, the first since leaving home.

10th March
Embarked on the S.S. Harwarden Castle. after all were on board received orders to stop embarkation.

12th March
We were towed out to the mouth of the harbour, and cast anchor, where we remained till about till about the 15th.

17th to 31st M
Returned to P.M.Burg stayed there about a week then went up to Ladysmith stayed there about a week off again to Elandslaggte.

6th April
Arrived at Elanslaagte about this date

threw up trenches and made things generally comfortable.

20th April
Boers commenced shelling our camp, we dropped tents, a couple of companies lined the trenches the remainder of the Batt. moved to cover on lower ground about 5 P.m. the Batt. marched about 4 miles to Jononos Kop and took up out-post for the night.

21st April
Some of the Lancashire Bde. came out and relieved us and we marched back to our old camp.

30th April
Heard a rumour that 5,000 boers had been captured by Gen. French and
