both generals being wounded.

8th May
At daybreak a party of boers ran in to a picquet of the Rifle Bde the sentry challenged and one of the boers shouted hands up the sentry said yes I will my ------ and fired and bought the boer to ground some brisk firing ensued the boers retired leaving the dead and carrying the wounded with them a Sgt. of the R. Bs being wounded.

9th May
Left Elandsaagte and marched to Sunday River. Bluff about 5 miles everyone glad to be on the move again as there was a deal of dysentry and fever at Elandsaagte.

13th May
We were off again marching about 12 miles over a bad dusty and precipitous road were we halted for about an hour close to Sunday River crossed the river and marched about 2 miles to a place called to Havilands Kop and bivouched for the night.

14th May
Off again at 6 A.m marching about 12 miles we arrived at the foot of a big hill where we halted, and waited for the waggons which arrived about 5 P.m. had just got our rations when we had to go up to the top of the hill and stop there for the night.
