26th May
Marched off to Ingogane about 14 miles.

27th May
Marched to Newcastle about 6 miles found the town, entirely destroyed and the railway station in a proper reckless condition stayed at Newcastle till the 4th of June. Built corragated iron bivoues for ourselves.

5th June
Marched to De Wets Farm about 7 miles.

6th June
Left camp about 7 Am lightly equipped on a reconissance climbing a couple of small hills and there a large

one being shelled on the way the scouts reporting enemy in sight the Mx and the S.A.L.H. took Van Wyk and we were on outpost duty the same night it was freezing cold, had no coats nor blankets most of the men walking about all the night vainly trying to keep themselves warm we got some dinner about midnight.

8th June
Moved to a lower slope, and built breast for Naval guns in the afternoon moved off again and escorted the Naval guns and 61st Howetzer Battery through Botha's Pass
