to Volksrust station to entrain for Ingogane and stopped there till the 9th July. Started off at 6 Am and marched about 12 miles to some fats about 3 miles from Newcastle.

From 9th July till 26th August kept going in and out after boers.

27th August
Reconinassance.

1st September
Lord Roberts proclaimed Transvaal British Territory.

5th Sept
Reconinassance from Newcastle to Dornkop bivoucaked on Umbona near Dankop heard in the distance booming of guns.

6th Sept
Enemy shelled by our Artillery infantry did not come into action.

7th September
Artillery and Cavalry in action. Infantry did not although they went out.

8th September
Marched back to Newcastle about 10 miles.

9th September
Back to where we came from Yesterday.

10th September
Went out about 5 miles further, entrenched ourselves marched back at night.

From 10th Sept till the 6th October we stopped on Umbana Hill and then we escorted guns and convoy to Utrecht and back the same night to Umbana.

7th October
Moved off Umbana Hill to Mx Hill stopped there till the 10th and then went to
