14th November
we went to Kitchener Kop to relieve the I L I on the 19th the Left Half went to Fat Hay to relieve the Y + L's for home on the 20th Nov. we were washed out of our bivoucs and had to walk about all the night.

26th November
My Coy F19 was formed a Mounted Infantry Company for the Regt. we stopped in Newcastle till the 11th of Dec. after we got our horses we had drill for about a month and we went on the Column to take a Convoy to Vryheid from Dundee.

January 5th [1901]
Standing under orders to turn out at any minute.

6th January
Left Newcastle for Umbana and arrived there 1.30 Pm Same Dte.

January 7th
Left Umbana at 6 A.m scouting all the way to Utrecht in front of a company and was relieved by the Utrecht Dragoon got back to Kopje between Utrecht and Umbana camping their for the night when we got in I heard that one of my chums had got drowned he was sent out to the right flank with another man and a N.C.O. and how it was managed we cannot find out yet and never shall.

January 8th
We started from Umbana at 7 A.m
