reconniassance the 69th Battery and two 4uts (?).7 went out and we had no one killed or wounded and they bought in a wagon and oxen.

January 15th
We left Vryheid at 6.A.m with empty convoy with a few boers knocking about but they did not interfere with us they was after the guard of the column we done 18 miles and got into Blood River Camp about 5 P.m all correct.

January 16th Left Blood River at 6.30 Am with empty convoy for De Jaager"s Drift had no opposition we got into De Jaager"s Drift camp at 2.30 Pm.

January 17th
Left De Jaager"s Drift at 8 A.m enroute for De Walls Farm about 9 miles met enemy and my Coy. was advance and flank guard and got into camp at 11.30 Am.

January 18th
Left De Walls Farm 6.Am for Tendegen Kopje and camped there for the night.

19th January
Left Tendegen Kopje at 6.45 Am for Newcastle when we started off we was wet through and when we got into Newcastle we was told to hold ourselves in readiness to proceed to Umbana at 4.Pm well we started off for Umbana at 5 P.m and before we got many miles it
