came on to thunder and lighten and before we got to our journey"s end we was wet through to the skin and we had to wait 2 hours for our tents and blankets and we got anchored down a 11.30 P.m

January 20th
We stopped at Umbana for a few days rest fitted up again.

January 21st
One half of my Coy. went to Utrecht and the other Half stopped at Umbana. I was in the Half that was at Umbana and it was the best place.

January 22nd
We had to escort the mail halfway to meet the other half doing the same till 21st Feb.

February 21st
We started off at 9.30.A.m from Umbana to take a convoy of 60 waggons to Gen. French"s Column we got to a place called Lieaks Spruit where we used to meet the other half "Coy." where they outspan the bullocks for 2 hours we took our bigs coats out with us and our Officer said you can send your coats back so we took our coats off and a man took them back on his horse he hadn"t left us more than half an hour before it came on to rain terrible and we got back to our camp at about 6.P.m wet through and is still raining.
